Opening the Year with Val, Author of Saints in Lockdown

This entry is part 12 of the series In All Things

Happy New Year!

It seems impossible that it’s a whole year since our last interview two weeks ago with Vida Li Sik!

Talking to others, I’ve found it fascinating how many people reporting that 2020 seemed more like a decade! That although the days seemed to fly past, the weeks went on forever. I was chatting on WhatsApp with my daughter in Montenegro. She said she’d been talking to her teaching colleagues the day before, and they had all said the same thing!

Isn’t it strange?

How about you? Has 2020 seemed a particularly long year for you?

So today we return to one of the last interviews with authors who participated in our boxed set, In All Things, and today we’re chatting to Val Waldeck, a multi-published author who lives in Durban, on the South Coast of South Africa.

Welcome Val!

In All Things – A Compilation of Devotions by Authors of Africa

Lockdown!

As the very strict lockdown imposed on South Africa was prolonged, I decided to suggest a 13-book project for some of the writers on my Christian Writers of Southern Africa Facebook group.

On the 10th July, eleven authors stepped to one side to work on what was to become an extremely fun, and at times very challenging, project. Over a period of 16 weeks, we tackled and produced a 13-book boxed set of daily devotions, all with a covering theme of Africa.

This entry is part 3 of the series 7-Day Readings

About The Boat that Saved Mankind

God tells you He is going to put an end to the human race. Then you learn you are one of only eight people He plans to save.

It gets worse. He wants you to build a boat to start over. How crazy is that? Does He even know how old you are?

Will you obey? Read about the one man who did.

God was going to wipe out all of mankind. The future of the world was in one man's hands. Would he obey? Would you? Pls RT Click To Tweet

Story of The Boat that Saved . . .

Chapter 1 is “Life in Noah’s Day” and includes some fascinating information I didn’t know until I researched the topic.

The final chapter tells of “A New Earth” and really makes you think what a daunting task the Noah family faced as they stepped off that stuffy ark.

What was the first thing they did?

And what is the first thing you do when you face overwhelming circumstances?

I really enjoyed writing this book. Then I faced the task of looking for suitable pictures to illustrate the story. I was delighted to find ideal images and I know my readers will love them too.

About God in the Unexpected

Colossians 3:11 tells us that God is “over all and through all and in all.”

It is easy to see Him in the birth of a new baby, the glories of
a magnificent garden, or the joy of a wedding ceremony.

But what of the times when we don’t notice him? The difficult times?
The occasions when we don’t expect Him to show up?

In these seven devotional readings, Shirley Corder encourages you
to look for God in unexpected places.

There are times it's easy to see God at work. Other times? Not so easy. God in the Unexpected tells of 7 places you wouldn't expect to find God. Click To Tweet

Places such as

  •  the technology that has so much influence over our lives today
  •  the dark prisons of life
  •  the cold place of a cancer diagnosis
  •  and more.
