Our African fig tree may grow to a tall tree with twisted, muscular branches, or it may remain a low shrub. Twice a year, it bears fruit which is nutritious and extremely rich in natural sugar. In Bible times it was well-known and popular, yet in this parable it refuses kingship. It understood its own value.
We have been gifted by God. He has specific tasks for us to do and he’s given us the ability we need. Yet we are so easily distracted.
PRAYER: Lord, help us not to be side-tracked from your plan, even when other things seem important.
Judges 9:8, 10-11 (CEV) Once the trees searched for someone to be king . . . Then they asked the fig tree, “Will you be our king?” But the fig tree replied, “I won’t stop growing my delicious fruit, just to have my branches wave above the other trees.”
